  • Frequently Asked Questions

    1. Do I need a visa for the UK?
To check if you need a visa please use the 'Do I Need a Visa' guide on UK Border Agency website.

You will also need a visa if you are
      are stateless
      hold an non-national travel document
hold a passport issued by an authority that is not recognised in the UK

    2. How do I make a UK visa application?
You can find information about how to apply for a visa on this website. If you have any questions about the visa application process you can email or telephone VFS; their contact details can be found on the 'contact us' page of this website.

    3. Why do I need to provide documents in support of an application?
UK immigration law requires the applicant to satisfy the visa officer that they qualify for a visa under the Immigration Rules. You will need to provide evidence that you qualify for a visa under the Rules. To do this you should provide documents in support of your visa application.

    4. What supporting documents are needed?
Advice on what sort of supporting documents you should submit with your visa application can be found on this website. Everyone's circumstances are different and it is up to you to decide what supporting documents to submit with your application . Our list does not cover every single eventuality, and producing all the documents will not guarantee a visa. Applicants should make sure they include all supporting papers with their application, and not send, or fax us any papers separately. Applicants should submit original documents. We see large numbers of forged documents, and it is easier for us to verify if an original document is genuine. We recognise that some documents are too valuable to submit with an application. In these cases applicants should submit a good quality attested photocopy. Please do not send credit cards, or original airline tickets.

    5. Can my friend or family member in the UK apply for my visa for me?
A friend or family member can assist you with your visa application but you must ensure the information is correct and sign the visa application form when you visit the visa application centre. You will have to attend the visa application centre in Thailand to submit your biometric data. You will need a visa before you travel to the UK or you will be refused entry.

    6. How do I sponsor an application?
You can find out more on the Information for sponsors page on the UK Border Agency website.

    7. How long will my visa be valid for?
The period for which your visa is valid is always shown on the visa placed in your passport. You may stay a maximum of 6 months on each visit, or to the expiry date of the visa, whichever is shorter. In general visit visas can be used for an unlimited number of entries to the UK. If you are coming for another reason, the validity of the visa and how long you can stay can vary. If you do not plan to travel immediately, you can ask for your visa to be post-dated and the start date to be deferred by up to 3 months. You must tell the visa officer this when you make your application.

    8. How much does a UK visa cost?
Please see the 'visa application fee' page on this website for information about fees and how to pay.

    9. Where can I get more information?
VFS can help you with information on the visa application process in Thailand. VFS contact details can be found on the 'contact us' page of this website. Guidance on visa application categories can be found on the UK Border Agency website.
